The New Year is underway and chances are you came into it with several resolutions. How many of those are you actually sticking to? Well, technology can help you stick to all those fitness-related resolutions you made.
CEA recently did a study, Getting Fit With Consumer Electronics, which showed fitness technologies are key to helping consumers stay motivated. I can personally attest to this since purchasing a Nike+. Knowing that all my runs will be tracked and plotted out on a chart makes it hard to skip one – even if I’m the only person that will see it. Through social networking, Nike+ and other fitness technologies let you up the ante and share your workouts with friends too. Now there’s some motivation.
The study showed that 54 percent of consumers said lack of motivation was their main excuse not to exercise. This is where fitness tech can come into play. According to the study, consumers who use these gadgets view exercise more positively, and are more likely to enjoy exercise and see it as important to their health.
Showing the growing importance of fitness technology, the 2011 International CES debuted the Fitness TechZone. Say goodbye to the digital couch potato image. Today there are so many ways technology can make your workouts and outdoor sports activities more fun and more efficient.
Fitness gaming will see growth as 20 percent of households with video game consoles plan to make a fitness gaming purchase this year. One of my favorite fitness games on the show floor was EA Sports Active 2. It brings a tough workout into your living room, and many agree – during its first six weeks EA Sports Active 2 members completed 390,000 workouts and burned 41 million calories. Check out the demo below from Gerard Recio, a certified strength and conditioning specialist who works for EA Sports.
